Labor Day Weekend

We got really lucky this labor day because Troy was given the entire week off from work! If we had a little more notice we would have planned something better but it didn't really matter we were just excited to have him to ourselves for a whole week! On Friday, Mikayla had a Dr.'s appointment down town so we decided since we would already be down there we should take the kids to temple square and the church history museum. It had been a while since we had been there and it is free so we went. The kids loved it! They have a lot of interactive stuff for the kids to do and see. This is Sam trying out the "beds" on the boats that some of the pioneers came across the ocean on. They told us that each family had one bed for the whole family. The parents would sleep sitting up against the wall. None of my kids thought they were comfortable at all! I had to agree with them! Here are the kids in front of Moroni. They thought it was cool to see one up close. This was actually on top of a building back east before it was torn down and Moroni moved here. This is everybody practicing for when they have to speak in conference some day. I say better them then me! I would never ever want to speak in conference. They had fun puzzles to do and pictures to color. Sam liked the puzzles and Owen loved to color. I am learning he is quite the little artist. The kids (minus Owen who didn't want to stop coloring) decided to put on a show about Lehi's dream from the book of Mormon. Troy was the narrator, Mikayla was the angel, Morgan played Lehi and Sam was everybody else. Sam was so stinkin' cute!

I took this picture of the temple. It is such a beautiful building! Inside and out!

On Monday we took the kids to the Bee's game with our friends Dave and Brandy. Thanks for the tickets Dave!!! They had a great time. Owen loved it when they actually hit the ball but was a little bored. I tried to get him to cheer for the pitcher to strike them out but he couldn't really see what was happening because it happened so fast.
We had such a good time that we stayed for the whole game! I loved spending the time as a family. I think next summer we will have to do this more often!

First Day of School 2010

Here are our (super late I know) 1st day of school pictures. This year is special because Mikayla is now a 7th grader and Owen is now in 1st grade and at school all day (insert mom whooping and cheering here)
I was not excited, as most of you who have talked to me about it know, about Mikayla starting 7th grade. As soon as she finished 6th grade I developed, what I lovingly refer to as, "pukitis". When the subject of Mikayla and 7th grade came up I would either start to either get "fake" sick to my stomach, plug my ears and say "la la la la la la la". After going to back to school night however and watching Mikayla get really nervous and come down with a case of pukitis herself I was cured and got really excited for her. She has fit into middle school really well and seems to be excelling so far. She even ran her mile run in just over 12 min. a feat all by itself! Morgan is now in the 4th grade. (they grow up so stinking fast. I thought it was a myth. Turns out. . . it isn't) She is loving it. She is a wonderful reader and is fantastic at math. She is also, from what I can tell, one of those girls that thinks their group of friends is awesome. Do you know the type I am talking about? I am a little nervous if that continues! She is however a great friend and seems to make friends extremely easily. I am so excited to watch her excel. Mr. Owen is our big 1st grader. His favorite subjects in school are. . . . recess and lunch. He is such a boy. He does however do really well at math and will read to me at night if I force him to and promise to read at least 2 books to him after he is done. After having 2 girls who love school and do really well without much effort on my part I am a little nervous to see what a parent teacher conference with Owens teacher will be like. Example, Owen has already lost recess privileges after doing something he was asked not to. I do however think that he is going to be a wonderful student and will enjoy it. (at least until he realizes that he too is too cool for school!) Sam you would think would be lonely but he is however the exact opposite. He looks forward to the kids going to school because he finally gets to pick what he watches on tv and he gets to play the wii all by himself. Oh and he gets to go and play with mommy and his cousins all the time which anyone would love! I miss them a lot, I miss my sleep a lot, but mostly I will miss all the little things and times that fly by that you don't pay attention to until they are gone.
